How to Replace the Seat Fabric on Your 422L Swing
Tools Required:
- 16 mm socket wrench
Step-by-Step Breakdown:
-
Prepare the New Fabric:
- Lay the new fabric on top of the existing fabric in the same orientation it will be installed on the swing. This helps avoid confusion about the direction of the pole placement.
-
Remove the Bolts on One Side:
- Using a 16 mm socket wrench, locate and remove the four bolts on one side of the seat that connect the fabric to the 1-inch steel pole.
-
Remove the Pole from the Old Fabric:
- Once the bolts are undone, slide the existing pole out of the old fabric. Pull the pole towards you, away from the swing, keeping it in one direction.
-
Insert the Pole into the New Fabric:
- Immediately insert the pole into the new fabric the same way you removed it from the old fabric. Slide the pole through the new fabric, using the swing as a workstation.
-
Align the Fabric:
- When the pole reaches the top, work your fingers to pull the bottom strap over the other side of the pole to secure it.
- Connect the pole back to the same side you just disconnected. Do not tighten the bolts fully at this time; just start a thread or two to hold the bar in place.
-
Secure the First Side:
- Once the pole is loosely connected, flip the new fabric over to the other side to get it out of the way.
- Repeat the same process for the other side: undo the four bolts, remove the pole from the old fabric, and insert it into the new fabric.
-
Secure the Second Side:
- Slide the second pole through the new fabric, up to the one-inch nylon band, ensuring it stays within the track.
- Connect the pole back to the swing using the bolts, but only start them loosely.
-
Final Adjustments:
- Ensure the fabric is smooth and free of wrinkles, with everything in its proper place.
- Tighten all the bolts using a hand wrench or power drill, being careful not to over-torque them to avoid stripping.
-
Repeat for the Other Seat (if applicable):
- If you are replacing both seats at the same time, repeat the entire process for the other seat.
Tips:
- Working one sidebar at a time makes the process easier and helps maintain alignment.
- Avoid over-tightening the bolts to prevent damage.
